InvoiceAdept vs Yoley: iPhone-free invoicing vs an iPhone-only free app

By InvoiceAdept4 September 2026Updated 4 September 202614 min read

The short answer

For invoicing, InvoiceAdept Pro costs £7.99 excl. VAT a month (free for 5 invoices), while Yoley is £0 on its free iPhone app and £9.99 inclusive of applicable taxes on Pro. Pick Yoley for an iPhone-only job diary, receipt OCR and Tap to Pay at 0.99%. Pick InvoiceAdept to send invoices from a browser and deliver them in WhatsApp.

Prices and features below were checked on both live sites on 28 August 2026. Stripe's UK card rate was taken from InvoiceAdept's own pricing page the same day. CIS rules are from GOV.UK, not from either marketing homepage, and I did not count App Store reviews.

What exactly is InvoiceAdept and what exactly is Yoley?

Yoley sells an iPhone business app: quotes, invoices, expenses with on-device OCR, a job diary, customer CRM, CIS subcontractor records and card payments through Monek. The homepage, checked 28 August 2026, still shows a countdown for an App Store launch on 30 July 2026 next to a Download on the App Store button. Their FAQ and user guide treat the app as something you search for on an iPhone running iOS 16 or later.

UK tradesperson on site preparing to invoice a customer

The constraint is the device. Yoley is currently iPhone only, iPad is planned, and there is no Android version. Their own vs Tradify page lists "Web / desktop client: iPhone only" and "Multi-user team: Roadmap". Quotes go out by email, SMS or a shareable link. WhatsApp on Pro is enquiry capture from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Google, not invoice delivery.

InvoiceAdept sells invoicing for UK trades. Free is a 5-invoice trial of the template, email and PDF. Pro is the get-paid plan: unlimited invoices, up to 3 users, Stripe with no extra InvoiceAdept platform fee, automatic reminders, WhatsApp invoice delivery, branding, recurring invoices, quotes and expenses. Pro+ adds CIS, bank reconciliation, cashflow, reports, an audit log and unlimited users. It is a web product at invoiceadept.com, and the CIS feature page also advertises an iOS and Android app. There is no job diary, no Tap to Pay and no claim that we replace Yoley's calendar.

InvoiceAdept is invoicing software from Tech Me Today Ltd (Companies House 15917255, ICO ZB944663). Yoley Limited is Companies House 14113958. Those numbers come from the public record each company prints, not a quality score.

How much do InvoiceAdept and Yoley actually cost?

InvoiceAdept states that all prices exclude VAT, with annual billing advertised as a 20% saving. Yoley's terms say Pro is £9.99 per month inclusive of any applicable taxes, billed through Apple. Confirm both at checkout. Yoley Free is £0 forever on the public pricing block.

Two numbers do most of the work: 5 invoices versus unlimited, and iPhone only versus a browser. The subscription gap is smaller than it looks. InvoiceAdept Pro at £7.99 excl. VAT is £9.59 if you add 20% VAT, and Yoley Pro is £9.99 including applicable taxes. You are not choosing a cheap plan versus an expensive one. You are choosing a billing tool versus an iPhone job app.

Working out the real cost of invoicing fees and VAT

Card payments use Stripe on InvoiceAdept and Monek on Yoley. Yoley's homepage comparison table still prices Tradify at £29/mo, but Tradify's own UK pricing for our InvoiceAdept vs Tradify article listed Lite at £34 per user. Use live competitor pages, not Yoley's grid, if you are also shopping Tradify.

How much would a £1,200 job paid by card cost?

Take a one-van plumber who sends 12 invoices a month, mostly to homeowners, and is paid by card on this job.

InvoiceAdept Pro: £7.99 excl. VAT that month, plus Stripe at the rate InvoiceAdept publishes for UK cards, 1.5% + 20p. On £1,200 that is £18.20, with no second percentage from InvoiceAdept.

Yoley Free: £0 subscription. Payment link at 1.49% equals £17.88, slightly cheaper than Stripe's published UK rate on that invoice.

Yoley Pro: £9.99. Tap to Pay on iPhone (XS or later, Pro only) at 0.99% equals £11.88 if the customer taps the phone on site. Payment links stay 1.49% on Pro as well, so Yoley's FAQ is clearer than the homepage 0.99% line, which is Tap to Pay only.

  • Subscription: Yoley Free wins if 12 invoices is your month. InvoiceAdept Free is used up after invoice 5.
  • Card fee on a payment link: Yoley 1.49% versus InvoiceAdept's published 1.5% + 20p. On this invoice Yoley is 32p cheaper.
  • Card fee on site: Yoley Tap to Pay is the cheapest of the three, if you are on Pro and the customer will tap an iPhone.
  • WhatsApp: InvoiceAdept Pro sends the invoice in the thread. Yoley lets you share a link, or capture a new lead from WhatsApp on Pro. Those are different buttons.

Customer shaking hands with a tradesperson after paying a job

If the same customer pays by bank transfer, both card fees are £0 and the live cost is the subscription, or Yoley's £0. Bank transfer is still the default for anyone who will actually open a banking app.

How does CIS work on each platform?

Under the Construction Industry Scheme, contractors deduct money from a subcontractor's labour and pass it to HMRC. Those deductions count as advance payments towards the subcontractor's tax and National Insurance. The GOV.UK subcontractor page is the rule: 20% if you are registered, 30% if you are not, and gross payment status means no deduction if HMRC has granted it. Materials are out of the labour deduction.

That is one scheme. The software question is which direction you need.

Yoley's user guide is written for contractors who engage other tradespeople. You toggle CIS Subcontractor on a customer, enter their UTR, pick 20% / 30% / 0%, and the deduction is calculated automatically on any invoice raised against them. Yoley does not currently submit CIS returns to HMRC.

Construction blueprint for a CIS subcontractor job

InvoiceAdept's CIS feature page puts CIS on Pro+: deduction tracking and exportable records on the invoice you raise. Both contractor and subcontractor roles are supported, and the pricing FAQ confirms CIS sits on Pro+. CIS300 filing is still not in the product, and Pro at £7.99 does not include CIS.

  • You are a subcontractor billing a main contractor and you need 20% shown on your own PDF: InvoiceAdept Pro+, or InvoiceFree at £0. Yoley's public CIS pages describe the other direction.
  • You are a contractor paying subbies and need to track their UTRs and rates: Yoley Free includes that. InvoiceAdept Pro+ claims both sides.
  • Neither is the monthly CIS return. Contractors still verify and file with HMRC. Software that prints the right numbers does not replace that.
  • If CIS on the invoice you send is the only reason you opened this tab, start with InvoiceFree, not with an iPhone job app, and not with InvoiceAdept Pro, where CIS is the more expensive plan. There is a longer CIS template in CIS invoice template UK. Reverse charge on the same PDF is separate: domestic reverse charge invoice UK.

Can Yoley send invoices on WhatsApp?

UK domestic work is sold in WhatsApp. The homeowner who approved extra work in a voice note is not sitting in Outlook.

InvoiceAdept Pro sends the invoice from the app into that thread, with a pay link on the document. That is logged delivery, not a screenshot. There is a standalone walkthrough at How to send a WhatsApp invoice in the UK.

Yoley's send options for a quote, from the user guide, are Email, SMS or Share Link. Share Link is how you drop a Yoley document into WhatsApp by hand. That works, and it is the same extra step InvoiceFree users already take.

Yoley Pro's WhatsApp feature is enquiry capture: new leads from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Google into a pipeline, then converted to a quote. That is useful if your problem is missing DMs. It is not the same as sending INV-0142 down the existing job chat.

Use WhatsApp send for domestic customers who already message you. Use email for anyone with a purchase order process. A limited company's accounts payable clerk is not in your job group chat, and they will not tap Face ID to open Yoley on your phone.

Who else can log in, and does Yoley work on Android?

This is the part comparison posts skip because it makes InvoiceAdept look like a website. It is a website, and that is the point if your bookkeeper is on a laptop.

Yoley FAQ: iPhone, iOS 16 plus. iPad planned, no Android. Data lives in your iCloud via CloudKit. Lose the Apple ID and you have a restore problem, not a Yoley-server problem, because they say their servers never hold the business data. There is no web client on the vs Tradify table, and team access is a roadmap item, not a plan on the pricing grid.

Electrician working on site with invoicing on a phone nearby

InvoiceAdept is an account on the web. Pro is up to 3 users, and Pro+ is unlimited users. Your accountant can be sent an export without borrowing your phone. If you are an Android-only van, Yoley is not a candidate. If two people need to raise invoices, Yoley as shipped on 28 August 2026 is the wrong shape. See the trade-specific versions on plumbers and builders for a closer read on your own niche.

Tap to Pay is the other device lock. Yoley Pro turns an iPhone XS or later into a contactless reader at 0.99% with no extra hardware, paid through Monek. InvoiceAdept does not offer Tap to Pay; card collection is a Stripe link on the invoice. If on-site tap is why you are shopping, Yoley Pro is the product and InvoiceAdept is not.

Do InvoiceAdept or Yoley handle VAT and MTD filing?

The VAT registration threshold is £90,000 of taxable turnover on a rolling 12 months, or if you expect to go over it in the next 30 days. That is GOV.UK. Both products can put a VAT number on a document, and neither of them is your VAT return.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is a separate obligation. The GOV.UK guidance starts with sole trader or landlord on Self Assessment, income from self-employment or property, and qualifying income over the threshold. From 6 April 2026 that meant qualifying income over £50,000 for the 2024 to 2025 tax year, with lower thresholds published for later years. Qualifying income is turnover before expenses, so use HMRC's checker, not a blog. The rule, updated 26 March 2026, is on the gov.uk MTD guidance page.

InvoiceAdept keeps digital records and exports. We do not send those quarterly updates. Yoley maps expenses to SA103 boxes and exports a summary for your accountant. That is record-keeping, not tapping Submit to HMRC. The honest version of that split is in MTD invoicing software for UK tradespeople. InvoiceAdept's own pricing page still uses looser MTD-ready records language than this article, so believe this article and HMRC, not the slogan.

Business owner reviewing tax records ahead of making tax digital

Yoley's homepage comparison table ticks HMRC SA103 expense mapping and Open Banking. SA103 mapping is useful at Self Assessment time, and Open Banking on Pro auto-matches incoming payments. Neither is MTD for Income Tax filing. The gov.uk MTD guidance is the source for what actually counts.

Who should pick which?

Choose Yoley if:

  • Your whole business already lives on one iPhone.
  • You want unlimited quotes and invoices at £0, plus a diary and receipt scanning.
  • You are a contractor tracking CIS on people you pay, not a subbie raising the deduction on your own bill.
  • Tap to Pay on site is worth £9.99.
  • You do not need a bookkeeper on a desktop, a second user or Android.

Choose InvoiceAdept if:

  • You invoice from a laptop, a tablet or Android as well as a phone.
  • You want WhatsApp invoice delivery from the app.
  • More than one person has to raise invoices.
  • You are a CIS subcontractor who wants the 20% / 30% split on the PDF you send, and you will pay Pro+, or you will use InvoiceFree instead.
  • You will actually use Pro's reminders, recurring invoices and Stripe links. If you will not, do not pay for them.

Choose InvoiceFree instead of both if: you want unlimited invoices and CIS on the subcontractor invoice at £0, you are happy to email or paste a link, and most customers pay by bank transfer. Read InvoiceAdept vs InvoiceFree. Their 1% platform fee applies when a customer pays through their Stripe links.

Use two tools, on purpose: Yoley, paper or Google Calendar for the day; InvoiceAdept or InvoiceFree for the bill if the phone app is the wrong shape; Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks or an accountant for HMRC. Duplicate income figures across three systems is how VAT gets declared twice, so pick a source of truth.

Skip InvoiceAdept if: you are already on Yoley, the invoices go out from the iPhone, customers pay the 1.49% link or Tap to Pay, and unpaid ones get chased. Switching to a browser app to get a website only pays if someone else actually needs to log in. Compare your options on pricing.

Skip Yoley if: you are on Android, you need a web login, or you are a CIS subcontractor whose actual problem is the invoice you send, not the subbies you pay.

What we are not claiming

InvoiceAdept is not unlimited on the free plan. CIS is not on Pro. WhatsApp send is not on Free. We do not file MTD updates. We do not offer Tap to Pay. We do not have a job diary, and we are not going to invent an App Store rating to look like a mobile-first app. Explore the actual limits across invoicing and CIS features.

Yoley is not the worse version of InvoiceAdept. It is a coherent iPhone product: free invoices, a diary, OCR, contractor-side CIS, monetised on card fees and an optional Pro. For a sole trader who will never leave iOS, that can be the better deal. For a subcontractor who invoices from a laptop and gets paid in WhatsApp, Pro is usually the better deal.

Yoley's homepage says "Join thousands of UK tradespeople". I am not repeating a customer count I cannot check. Their comparison table's Tradify, Powered Now and QuickBooks prices were stale against live competitor pages on 28 August 2026, and their 30 July 2026 countdown was still on the homepage 29 days later. Read the FAQ and the terms, not the countdown.

Stripe is not free on InvoiceAdept. The rate we publish is 1.5% + 20p for UK cards, and Yoley's payment-link rate is 1.49% through Monek. Those are close. Tap to Pay at 0.99% is the actual gap, and it is iPhone Pro only.

FAQs

Is InvoiceAdept a Yoley alternative?

For invoicing and getting paid, sometimes. For an iPhone job diary, receipt OCR and Tap to Pay, no. If your shortlist is a free iPhone trades app, InvoiceAdept does not belong on it. If your shortlist is invoicing UK customers from a browser and sending the PDF in WhatsApp, it does.

Is Yoley really free?

The core app is advertised as free forever on 28 August 2026: unlimited quotes and invoices, expenses, CIS subcontractor records, job diary and payment links at 1.49%. Pro is £9.99 a month including applicable taxes for Tap to Pay, Open Banking, Pay by Bank, WhatsApp enquiry capture and the rest of that list. You still pay Monek when a customer pays by card.

Does Yoley work on Android?

Not according to their FAQ on 28 August 2026. iPhone only, iOS 16 plus, iPad planned, no Android and no web client on their own comparison table.

Does Yoley send invoices on WhatsApp?

You can share a link into WhatsApp, the same way you can with any URL. In-app WhatsApp on Pro is lead capture from WhatsApp and social, not invoice delivery. InvoiceAdept sends the invoice via WhatsApp on Pro and Pro+.

I am a CIS subcontractor. Do I need Yoley or Pro+?

Yoley's public CIS help is written for contractors paying subbies. InvoiceAdept puts CIS on the invoice you raise, on Pro+ at £12.99 excl. VAT. InvoiceFree calculates CIS on the free plan. If you only need the deduction on your own bill and you are paid by BACS, start with InvoiceFree.

How much is card take-home?

On a £1,200 UK-card payment, using the rates published on 28 August 2026: InvoiceAdept with Stripe 1.5% + 20p is £18.20, Yoley payment link is £17.88, and Yoley Tap to Pay on Pro is £11.88. Bank transfer is £0 on both, ignoring subscriptions.

Do either of them file my MTD updates or CIS300?

InvoiceAdept does not file them. Yoley does not either, on the FAQ checked this run. Check gov.uk MTD guidance for the package that actually sends the quarterly update.

Are InvoiceAdept prices including VAT?

No. The pricing page says all prices exclude VAT. Yoley Pro is described in their terms as inclusive of any applicable taxes. Stripe and Monek fees are separate from either subscription.

Can I use InvoiceAdept and Yoley together?

You can, but you should not raise the same job twice. A typical split is Yoley or a diary for the day, InvoiceAdept for the bill and the WhatsApp pay link if the iPhone app is the wrong send channel, and your accountant's software for HMRC. If Yoley already invoices and you get paid, adding InvoiceAdept is clutter.

The bottom line

If you live on one iPhone and want free unlimited invoicing with a diary, OCR and on-site Tap to Pay, Yoley is the better product. If you invoice from a browser, want WhatsApp invoice delivery, need more than one user or need CIS printed on the invoice you raise, InvoiceAdept Pro or Pro+ is the better fit. Neither files MTD for you, so check the GOV.UK guidance before you rely on either.
